Your Mind Your Fear

 If you are frightened of spiders, you should know that you aren’t the only one who is. But, at the same time, many people aren’t frightened of spiders. There are some fears that collectively are present in many people, the most common is dying or being killed.

A young babies has no apparent fear most likely because they have no reference point to fix into their developing memory or brain. As they get older they become aware of cues from their surroundings and their parents and other people. This is often seen when a young child is told not to do something and they often do as they have no idea of the consequences.

As we get older, we store information that we then use to make a judgement about a situation or problem we experience. Often the information we store has no foundation in truth, but our awareness of a similar situation we have experienced and the outcome. Do some people have a fear of heights because they fear falling or because falling will result in pain or death? It is a process that develops the human fight or flight process to situations.

The same applies for any kind of fear. Are you frightened of snakes? I know I am based on the fact that many are venomous and could, if they bit me, cause pain and possible death. Take bungee jumping? Why are these things scaring me and a percentage of the world population, but not others?

Fear though is universal and impacts a lot of people’s lives, it is an individual thing. It is a state of mind. It is your state of mind. We have conditioned our mind to respond to certain things in a given way. This is why so many people never fulfill their potential, because they fear failure. Likewise, there are people that are successful and suffer feelings of unworthiness called Imposter syndrome.

Fear is a natural emotion that can be caused by many different factors. It is a survival instinct that helps us respond quickly to dangerous situations or potential threats. Fear can also be triggered by something we anticipate, such as a job interview or a public speaking event. Fear can be a helpful emotion as it can encourage us to take precautions, stay safe, and think twice before taking risks. However, fear can sometimes become irrational and persistent, leading to anxiety and stress. If often develops into a phobia.

Fear can be a difficult emotion to handle, but there are some strategies you can employ to help you cope with fear and eventually overcome it. One of the most effective strategies is to practice deep breathing exercises. Taking a few slow, deep breaths can help you to relax your body and clear your mind. Additionally, you can try to identify the source of your fear and work on tackling it one step at a time. Breaking down the problem into smaller, manageable chunks can help to reduce your fear and make it easier to face. Finally, talk to someone you trust about your fear – they may be able to provide you with a different perspective and some helpful advice. With some practice, patience and perseverance, you can eventually overcome your fear.
